Students and staff enjoy meeting guide dogs and raising money
Buckinghamshire New University students and staff enjoyed a stress-busting couple of hours with charity Guide Dogs, organised by the students’ Guide Dog Society, and raised £129 for the good cause.
Students at the University, in Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe, enjoyed cuddling dogs and spoke with Guide Dog owners and volunteers to find out first-hand about the charity’s work.
Mona Gundacker, chair of the Guide Dogs Society, organised through Bucks Students' Union, said the event helped boost students’ and staffs’ mental health, as well as raising money for the charity.
She said: “It was great to raise money for the charity and ideal for staff and students to de-stress, particularly as many are in the middle of exams.
“Our staff and students also enjoyed speaking to the owners about what an important role the dogs play in their lives.”
Mireille Haviland, Community Development Fundraising Manager for Guide Dogs, said staff and students met retired Guide Dogs, working Guide Dogs, and puppies in training.
“I’m sure many of the students are missing their dogs at home and value the chance to take time out from their studies to cuddle a dog, finding the sessions very therapeutic but also very educational,” she said.
“We were excited to support the University’s group of active and enthusiastic student fundraisers and thank them for their continued support.”
