How my course is preparing me for the industry

There are some job industries that require knowledge and skills that can’t necessarily be taught in a classroom, and for the music and entertainment industry this is definitely one of them.

A lot of knowledge and skills have to come from experience, and here at Buckinghamshire New University, modules are selected to give you the best opportunity for classroom based learning and practical work.

In your first year of Music Business, students are paired with the Live Events, Festival and Venue Management course to create a winter-based event on campus that is open to the public. While as a Music Business student you may not wish to explore the events industry, you are able to create marketing campaigns, learn about laws and contracts that are required to put on an event safely and enhance basic skills like communication, organisation, and resilience. These skills, along with the opportunity to build up your CV is favoured by industry professionals and employees because it gives you first-hand experience. The more experience your CV contains, the more employable you become to a business.

The advantage of the music business course here at BNU is that all of your lecturers are currently still working into the industry that you are entering, providing you with many opportunities both in and outside of the University campus. This also means that as they are learning new knowledge and skills from within the industry, so are you as students.
