Dr Barbara Kingsley

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2010, I was an associate lecturer at the Open University, a convenor of research methods modules at Roehampton University and also worked as a research assistant.

I studied for my BSc and PhD in Cognitive Psychology at Roehampton University, which is where I developed a keen interest in cognitive psychology and research methods. My specialist areas of research are prospective memory, and student experiences concerning learning research methods in higher education. The former is interesting to me because it investigates the processes we need in order to remember to do everyday things (for example, taking medication), which in turn allow us to live independent lives. I am really interested in the latter because it is such an important part of any programme of study at university and one which involves many skills (for example, problem solving, critical thinking and decision making).

I am a Chartered Psychologist (C.Psychol), an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

My career highlight is the joint authorship of a research methods book, Your A to Z of Research Methods and Statistics in Psychology.
