Dr Alison Tedman has a PhD in Film Studies from the University of Kent, titled Strategies of Pleasure and Power: the Role of Phantasy in the Fairy Tale Film. She will be Programme Leader for the BA Film and Television Production from September 2018, and is Module Tutor for core theory modules in Film Studies, Television and New Media Studies.
Alison was a member of the team that established Buckinghamshire New University’s first BA programme combining Film and Media Studies with Video Production in the 1990s. Since then she has developed and taught an extensive range of modules in Film Studies at the University, as well as Television Studies, New Media and Critical Theory. Subject areas taught include film and television genres, women and cinema, classical and post-classical Hollywood, European and art cinema. Her experience includes other course leadership and PhD supervision.
Alison’s research areas lie in Science Fiction and Fantasy film and television. She has particular research interests in Young Adult Dystopian film franchises and television series and the design of their landscapes. She has published in the field of Young Adult Dystopian cinema, and is a regular published reviewer for Foundation: The International Review of Science Fiction, and for Fantastika Journal.
