Biography

I studied for my BSc (Hons) in Midwifery at the University of Bedfordshire and trained within Buckinghamshire healthcare Trust. Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2022 I was, and continue to be, a practicing midwife. Since registration, I have worked in all areas of midwifery and now work as a senior midwife in a small homebirth team within the community. My role is the epitome of a women-centred care.

I have a special interest in birth rights and birth environments. Witnessing institutional care as a student was the catalyst behind these interests and my subsequent dissertation on human rights in childbirth. I later developed it for publication and received recognition for my contribution to research. This remains a key driver behind my practice and is an area of midwifery I am keen to research further.

I’ve worked at a number of institutions before securing my current role as a Midwifery Lecturer at BNU and I have spent my entire career building on my role as a practice supervisor. Immersing myself in every given opportunity to learn and grow as an individual for the purpose of becoming the educator that I would’ve wanted as a student.

I’ve now reached a point in my career where I have successfully aligned my passion for both midwifery and teaching and I am experiencing the highlight of my career. As a practicing midwife and midwifery lecturer, I now have a unique perspective of student development from a clinical and academic point of view, which truly lends to a student-centred approach to teaching.
