Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University, I studied here in 2000 as a 39 year old mature student on the BSc (Hons) Internet Technology course. Previous to this, I have been an entrepreneur and had multiple businesses ranging from a catering company to building and owning a nightclub. When I graduated in 2003 BNU were kind enough to award me a scholarship to undertake a PhD which focused on “The Evolution of e-business in small and micro enterprises” which I completed.

Since 2003 I have been CEO of Oxford Systems which is an accredited Cyber Essentials certification body as well as being the Alan Benjamin Research Fellow for ServiceTec Global Services. My responsibilities include the development and management of a complete set of Cyber Security services created specifically for transport and critical national infrastructure, as well as the deployment of those services at some of the world’s busiest airports.

I am certified Senior Cyber Security Professional with the National Cyber Security Centre as well as being an accredited CAA Assure auditor with ServiceTec which involves me undertaking cyber security audits at UK Airports. I was also involved as a panel member of the American Transport Research Board developing Cyber Security best practice for airports throughout North America.

I am an active member of the ACI EUROPE Aviation Security Committee, a committee member of the UK Cyber Security Council, the International Committee on Information Warfare and Security and a Member of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists. John is also a Freeman of the City of London.
