How to Prepare for your BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Screen Audition

How to Prepare for your BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Screen Audition

Great news we’ve got your application and you’re a suitable candidate. You’ll now receive an invite for an audition interview where you have approximately 15 minutes to show off your skills, enthusiasm for the course and your potential as an actor/actress.

So, what will you audition piece be?

On the day you’ll need to perform a short monologue from a published play of your choosing (either modern or classical). The monologue needs to be performed in English and be around 1.30 minutes to 2.30 minutes long. The chosen piece needs to be prepared in advance of the audition, so it is ready to be performed on the day.

How to Prepare

Firstly, don’t panic or stress. On the day we want to make sure you are feeling comfortable and confident and welcome any questions you may have for us before. If you need extra support you can always email advice@bnu.ac.uk, where a member of our friendly team will get back to you.

Secondly, pick a piece that works for you. We aren’t expecting Shakespeare (unless that’s the vibe you want to bring), the piece you perform needs to be something that you love performing and feel relaxed doing. Stick to what you know and smash it!

Thirdly go for comfort. Make sure you are wearing appropriate clothes and footwear for your audition. Formal attire, heels, suites and top hats are not required for your interview. We want you to be as comfortable as possible, not worried that your shirt is untucked.

Finally, enjoy yourself. We want to see your passion for acting and the joy it brings you to perform. So, smile, breathe and show us what you can do. Lights, camera, action!
