Dr Elif B Unsal Ozberk

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2024, I was an Assistant Professor at Trakya University, where I taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Psychological Testing, Statistics, and Research Methodology. Additionally, I have experience as a psychologist, psychometrician, and psychotherapist, providing consultancy through my private practice and through my work with the Ministry of Justice.

My undergraduate degree is from Ankara University, Department of Psychology. I received my master's degree in Educational Measurement and Assessment from Hacettepe University. I completed my Ph.D. in Measurement and Evaluation in Education at Ankara University and spent a year as a visiting scholar at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. My specialist areas of interest include equality, diversity and inclusion, student learning experiences, the effectiveness of the psychotherapeutic approach, sense of belonging and resilience, psychometric assessment, and the psychometric properties of tests. These areas are fascinating because they combine advanced statistical techniques with practical applications in educational and psychological settings, ultimately aiming to enhance student experiences and outcomes.

I am a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Additionally, I contribute to the World Association for Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy (WAPP) as a Research Working Group Member. I have completed Master Training in Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy and hold the title of Positive Psychotherapist.

My specialist knowledge has led me to work with clients such as the Ministry of Justice on projects including the development of training programs and the analysis of psychological assessments. I also work as a consultant for research methodology and psychometrics for various companies and projects, including Innovate UK funded projects, and as a psychotherapist in private practice.

In my pre-doc, I received a scholarship from Turkey and worked as a visiting scholar at the University of North Carolina, researching gender and socio-economic status bias in intelligence tests. This experience significantly shaped my research focus and contributed to my expertise in psychometrics and educational research methodology.
