How can I access electronic books?

We are working to provide as many of the resources you need as possible online. This guide helps you to find and access ebooks.  If you need help accessing any online resources, you should contact us. If there is a book you would like to use online but which you cannot access, please use our 'suggest a book' service.

How can I find online journals?

We will provide as many resources as possible online and this guide helps you to find journal articles. If there is an article you would like to use but are unable to find please contact us.

Can I suggest new books?

Yes, students can suggest books for the library to purchase. Please complete the Suggest a Book form. We will buy ebooks where possible. All library users can contact us for help in finding digital alternatives to print material.

 

What are the library's opening hours?

Can I study in the library?

Yes, the library is open for you to study during 24/7 during semester time and our staff are here to help you during staffed hours.  See our opening hours page for more details. 

Can I use group study rooms?

Yes, students are able to book and use the group study rooms in the library. For your safety, rooms are limited to two people for smaller rooms and four people in larger rooms. This guide will help you book a group study room.

Can I eat in the library?

Please don’t bring any hot food into the library but instead use other spaces around the Campus to take a break. You are welcome to drink cold drinks and have cold food but please be considerate towards other library users and put any rubbish in the bins provided.

Can I use library services without my student card?

You must have your card with you at all times when you are on Campus. You may not be able to use library services if you do not have your card with you.  If you have lost your card or haven’t been issued with one, please speak to Student Services on Campus.

 

Can I borrow a laptop overnight?

At present our laptops are available to use for four hours at a time but cannot be taken off-site or borrowed overnight. Student Services may be able to help you purchase equipment you need. We welcome feedback about the laptop loans service and will review it in light of student feedback if necessary.

I am an student at the Aylesbury campus, what library resources and services are available to me?

We are working to make all the resources you need available online. If you are having trouble accessing any resources you need for your course, please contact your Subject Librarian Catherine Williams.

How can I pay my library fines?

The library is not accepting cash at the moment so please pay all fines online using the secure payment portal.

How can I check my library account online?

You can log in to your library account through the library catalogue to check your loans and place holds. More detailed instructions about managing your loans, fines, and printing is available online.

Apply to be a member of our library

We welcome visitors, aged 18 years and over, to our High Wycombe and Uxbridge libraries. We have designed four different membership options available. Once you have found the suitable membership option for you and are ready to apply, please follow the 'how to apply' instructions below. 

Staff and students from other UK universities can use our libraries via the SCONUL Access Scheme. SCONUL borrower categories A, B and C can borrow up to four items. SCONUL category R users can access printed books and journals for reference only. To ensure we have the resources you need, please check our Library catalogue prior to your visit. You have free Wi-Fi access on your personal laptop or device.

Please complete an external user application form then email the Library a copy of your SCONUL authorisation prior to your visit so we can issue you with a BNU Associate card. After receiving a confirmation email, bring photo ID and proof of address to the campus Reception to collect your access card. Please bring your ID card from your home institution when you visit.

Please note that this library membership does not include access to the BNU network or e-resource subscriptions. During May revision and exam periods there will be no access for SCONUL users to the Uxbridge campus library. SCONUL users may access the High Wycombe Library throughout the whole year. Library regulations apply when using our libraries.

We are unable to accept new memberships or membership renewals from members of the public until July 2024.

BNU alumni can register for free library membership. Membership allows you to borrow up to four items at a time and free Wi-Fi access on your personal laptop or device. To ensure we have the resources you need, please check our Library catalogue prior to your visit.

To apply please complete an external user application form prior to your visit so we can issue you with a BNU Associate card. After receiving a confirmation email, bring photo ID and proof of address to the campus Reception to collect your access card.
