The public can see eye-catching and innovative work by Buckinghamshire New University's Art and Design students in an online exhibition, open until the end of August.

The exhibition, which normally takes place over a week at the University's campus in High Wycombe, has moved online due to the Covid-19 situation and been extended to give extra opportunity to showcase students' work.

It has also been showcased in the influential Aesthetica magazine. See the exhibition, here.

Sri-Kartini Leet, Head of School: Art, Design and Performance, said: "The show is a testament to our students’ positive work ethic, their resilience, and their ability to innovate and problem-solve. We couldn’t be prouder of them.

"Our students have already had a number of successes and we’re honoured to have been part of their journeys. My teams and I would like to congratulate our 2020 graduating year as we wish them every success in their future endeavours."

BA (Hons) Textile Design student Amy Dance is  displaying work made using sustainably-sourced materials including nettle fibre, hemp, and polyester made from recycled bottles for her final project.

Amy, who specialises in Print, is inspired by the lost beauty in the animal kingdom and is showing extinct and endangered animals on prints for couture fashion houses for men’s outwear, including coats and jackets.

Amy is among many students who have had to overcome the challenges of lockdown and being away from campus.

For her, this included creating a makeshift photography studio in her garden using the back of a poster from a cinema and a white bedsheet.

"With some editing on Photoshop the photos looked just like they would have in a studio," said Amy.

"I've benefited from Bucks' vast facilities for printing and the most enjoyable part of the course was learning so many new and interesting techniques due to the access we had to all the facilities and equipment."
