Bucks partners with Moorfields Eye Hospital for Apprenticeship courses

A second cohort of Assistant Practitioner Apprenticeship students are studying with Buckinghamshire New University and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as part of a workforce development programme. The students, who work as  healthcare assistants, are undertaking a two-year qualification between the University and the world-famous eye hospital learning skills to progress on to more senior roles in a variety of areas.

The students are studying at Bucks New University’s Campus in Uxbridge, Middlesex; completing placement at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London; and looking to enter careers including adult, child, mental health, and community nursing, as well as midwifery.

Karen Buckwell-Nutt, Head of School for Nursing and Allied Health at Bucks New University, said she was ‘hugely delighted’ to be partnered with Moorfields Eye Hospital.

She said: “We are proud to be leading training with a top NHS Trust and a hospital with an extremely well-respected and distinguished history of care dating back to 1805.

“This training addresses a skills shortage and means people can progress through a combination of experience and education with a strong academic rigour.”

The first cohort began studying in April. The apprenticeship includes flexible learning, real-world learning from academics with a background in the sector and a link tutor who visits apprentices at work to support their learning.
