Students enjoy awareness-raising day with leading global firm SITA

Leading air transport, IT and communications specialist SITA has spent a day working with Buckinghamshire New University students, boosting career aspirations and raising awareness of a hugely dynamic and progressive industry.

Top figures at SITA, which provides its services to around 400 members and 2,800 customers worldwide, worked with students in the Schools of Business, Law and Computing; and Aviation and Security, on a range of activities.

Kenneth Pennington, UK Human Resource Manager, said: “We have had the pleasure of being introduced to 120 talented and enthusiastic students, eager for a life in technology.

“Whilst we arrived on the day bursting with advice on careers, adaptability and desired skill-sets, our mission was to spark curiosity in the young minds of Bucks’ students.”

Second-year Airline and Air Transport Management student Horia-Stefan Suiugan said: “The whole day was very interactive and there were questions which made us think beyond the barriers and ask ourselves about our aspirations. Personally, I believe it was very useful because I have learnt many things about SITA and its core business and how all its employees interact with each other.”

Phil Wood, Head of School for Aviation and Security at Bucks New University, said: “SITA’s engagement with our students has shown them what opportunities exist for them in the aviation sector and the advice.

“The guidance and insights they have gained have been  invaluable to them as they focus on their future career choices “The ability to get face-to-face, honest feedback about their CVS and profiles from the real experts from the SITA team has been a rare opportunity and it was great to see so many of our students and staff getting involved.”

“We are extremely grateful to SITA for taking the time and effort to share their deep experience and knowledge with our students. “Industry engagement is what we are all about in the School of Aviation and Security and we look forward to welcoming the SITA team back to Bucks in early 2020.”

Dr Kevin Maher, Head of School for Business, Law and Computing, added: “The day SITA spent with our students led to them becoming more enlightened and inspired and we are looking forward to working with them further in the future.”

As well as Mr Pennington, SITA figures who attended the day at the University’s campus in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, were Drew Griffiths, Vice-President Business Operations, Charlotte Lawrence, Director Test; Mark Turner, Senior Portfolio Manager; and Isabelle Winter, HR Country Consultant. SITA also brought recent graduates, Erum Mahmood and Jacob Grimes, both currently on the Young Professionals graduate programme.
