Students and staff complete the Three Peaks Challenge
Adventurous Buckinghamshire New University staff and students have completed the Three Peaks Challenge, climbing each of the highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales, and raising more than £3,500 for charity.
Marcus Wood, a Principal Registry Officer, and Julie Irwin, Director of Student Success, made it to the top of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in 24 hours.
They were joined by BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) students Alice Durrant and Ayesha Chowdhury; and BSc (Hons) Nursing (Children's) student Shannon Batchelor, completing more than 26 miles, ascending 9,542 feet over 24 hours, and driving 462 miles between the mountains.
Marcus and Julie raised money for The Children’s Society and Alice, Ayesha, and Shannon raised money for the National Autistic Society.
The Bucks New University contingent joined students and staff from Loughborough, Exeter, Reading, Warwick, and Huddersfield universities in taking on the challenge.
Julie said the energy-sapping fundraiser, arranged through the company Choose a Challenge, was 'the hardest thing' she'd ever done.
She added: "It was mentally and physically the hardest thing I've ever done but what a massive achievement to complete it and to raise such a good amount for charity in the process.
"There was a really nice atmosphere among everyone, with a great sense of camaraderie, and everyone supported each other. We're both now enjoying a well-earned rest!"
