The Simulation, Psychology & Performance Team at Bucks New University is a finalist in the 2019 Papin Prizes.

Samantha McCormack, Technical Manager, and her colleagues Kelly Sluman, Katherine Tigar, Laura Manners, Luke Booker, Paige Metcalfe & Philip Woodbridge, are finalists in this year’s Technical Team category.

They are one of 32 finalists, selected from 200 nominations, for university technicians across the UK and Ireland who have demonstrated excellent practice.

Samantha said: “The Papin Prizes recognise the invaluable role played by technicians in Higher Education and amongst the team, there are members whose technical expertise has inspired other schools (outside of their directorate) to collaborate on projects.

“We are proud to be technicians and we are innovative, in particular designing new ways of working for best practice, and sharing these innovations with colleagues to ensure the student experience is the best it can be."

The Papin Prizes are named after Denis Papin, a 17th century technician who invented the steam digester and was one of the first technicians to publish in his own name.

The Simulation, Psychology & Performance Team are already proud winners of the Students Nursing Times 2018 Award for their dementia simulation (pictured below). The simulation is now delivered to NHS Trust and carehomes, as well as in the training of Bucks' student nurses.

The winners will be announced at the 2019 UK Higher Education Technicians Summit due to be held at the University of Birmingham on 25 June 2019.
