Successful graduate gives students real-world perspective

Bucks New University graduate Craig Brown, a Senior Product Specialist at Amazon Media Group, gave a real-world perspective on the advertising industry when he returned to Bucks to speak to students.
Craig, 34, graduated in BA (Hons) Business Studies and Marketing in 2005, and has worked for Amazon Media Group for three-and-a-half years having previously worked as a marketing manager for video games publisher, Capcom.
He said: “If there was one piece of major advice I could give it would be for students to undertake a placement. I think that would be really beneficial.
“Networking is so important in progressing your career and placements are a way of getting ahead while still studying.
“I did a year in a graduate role at JCDecaux and that then led me on to other opportunities. I have looked to impress on the students that a placement as part of their degree can be beneficial.”
Craig also spoke to students about how Amazon Media Group positions itself to agencies and brands. “It gave them a good understanding of how I go to agencies to speak about Amazon Media Group,” he added.
Speaking about returning to Bucks New University, he said: “I’m really impressed with the courses, which justify the investments made by the University.”
In The National Student Survey 2017 Marketing courses at Bucks were rated in the top 25 of all universities in the UK for being intellectually stimulating and for opportunities to apply knowledge.
Senior Lecturer Vic Davies said: “Craig is a very good example that we walk our talk on what we teach and its ability to get you out there and into not just a good job, but also to then progress in a good career over a long period of time.
“The media landscape keeps changing so rapidly and Craig is f someone who has learnt core skills from us and then used them to help develop a successful career.”
