All fired up: University joins forces with college group to deliver fire service apprenticeships

Buckinghamshire New University and Buckinghamshire College Group has put a successful bid together with to deliver an apprenticeship programme for Buckinghamshire Fire Service, announced last night during National Apprenticeship Week 2018.

The new apprenticeship programme will see up to 25 fire service personnel take up Leadership and Management apprenticeships at Levels 3, 5 and 6.  Buckinghamshire College Group will deliver the Level 3 and 5 apprenticeships over the course of one year, with Bucks New University focused on the two-year Level 6 programme.Launch of fire service apprenticeships

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has been looking to upskill their staff with formal qualifications, and the new apprenticeship programme will support existing staff with a recognised diploma qualification that is applicable to both the private and public sector.

Steve Dewhurst, Director of Strategic Planning and Apprenticeships at Bucks New University, said:  “We’re delighted that Bucks Fire and Rescue Service has chosen the partnership between the University and Buckinghamshire College Group to deliver its integrated Leadership and Management Programme.

“This is a great example of a regional collaboration offering quality training and formal recognition of skills and expertise. We look forward to working with such an important organisation within our county.”

Karen Mitchell, Principal and Chief Executive of Buckinghamshire College group said: “Apprenticeships are not only important in helping young people into work but also in developing and recognising existing staff within the workplace.”

“This week is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the great work of our apprenticeship team and to celebrate the fact that we are the largest provider of Apprenticeship training in Buckinghamshire. National Apprenticeship Week, coordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service, is designed to celebrate the positive impact apprenticeships and traineeships have on individuals, businesses and the economy.
