Students revel in opportunity to sell pieces at High Wycombe’s Craft Coop

Date: 3rd Dec 2018

Christmas shoppers can buy pieces by creative students at Buckinghamshire New University at Craft Coop in Eden Shopping Centre, High Wycombe, this festive season.

Students studying BA (Hons) Fashion Design and BA (Hons) Product Design have a range of pieces for sale in the community craft shop and say they value the opportunity to have their work purchased by shoppers.

The Product Design students’ work includes glass coasters, silver brooches, earrings, door stops, necklaces and Christmas tree decorations; while the Fashion Design students have a variety of t-shirts with their designs for sale.

The work will continue to be sold in the shop beyond Christmas and in to January.

Product Design student Josh Broadhurst said: “Some of our work has already sold and it’s great opportunity to take what we are doing with the classroom and test it commercially, plus it’s an excellent way to promote ourselves.”

Craft Coop also has a store in Maidenhead and the High Wycombe shop sells jewellery, handmade glass, ceramics and artwork from more than 30 new designers and makers, mostly from High Wycombe and the surrounding areas. It is a collective of local craft producers and designers that gives its members the opportunity to sell their products.

Jane Bowler, Course Leader, BA (Hons) Fashion Design, said: “This is wonderful opportunity to sell work alongside other designers. It’s great for the students to have their work in among such a hive of activity.

“It is also the perfect preparation for their next module on promoting themselves as designers.”

Dr Lyndon Buck, Principal Lecturer in Product Design, said: “We are very grateful to the Craft Coop for giving our students this opportunity to promote and sell their work, and we hope Christmas shoppers spend freely on their items.”

Deborah Jones, of Craft Coop, said: "We are so impressed with the creativity shown in the students' work, and excited to see it sell so quickly.

"Craft Coop is all about community, and we're thrilled to be able to offer this new generation of local artists and designers the opportunity to sell their products."
