Bucks busy for Clearing on A-level results day
Date: 16th Aug 2018
Social media and gaming, as well as the more traditional route of over the phone, are some of the ways prospective students can apply to Buckinghamshire New University through Clearing this year.
The University is busy today as would-be students receive their A-level results and seek places through the Clearing system.
Experienced staff, as well as students graduating this summer who have studied at the University, are on hand to take calls, and speak to applicants through social media.
Some of the University’s most popular courses range from pilot training to nursing and for the first year it is offering a range of foundation years on courses, as well as bursaries to support living expenses.
Questions are also being taken on Twitch, the social video service and community for gamers, where the University can be contacted at www.twitch.tv/bucksnewuniversity.
Julia Weston, Assistant Director of Marketing, said: “In Clearing, response time is key and we are making use of a range of ways for students to talk to someone quickly and get an answer rapidly.
“Social media, for example, provides an easy way of doing this and hopefully takes some of the pressure off prospective students on a day which we appreciate can be extremely stressful.”
Phil McDonnell, Head of Admissions, said: “No matter how busy we are every year, we have to make time for every prospective student in a way that makes sense to them.
“We know the process of calling can be stressful and it helps to be active over as many services as possible to reassure anyone thinking about University, particularly where we can respond live in a way that allows other viewers access to the same information.
“Twitch is a platform that is helping us do that this year.”
The Clearing office is open until 8pm today, from 7.30am-8pm tomorrow, 9am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday, and 8:30am-6pm from Monday-Friday next week.
