Animation students in top ten of global competition
Date: 9th Jun 2017
Bucks New University students’ animations are currently in the top ten of the most viewed films in a prestigious industry competition.
The Rookies is a global competition which celebrates the year’s most talented student designers, illustrators, film makers, animators, developers, and digital artists; attracting more than 6400 entries.
Rob Penhaligon, Course Leader for BA (Hons) Animation & Visual Effects, said: “Rookies is the most prestigious CGI student competition in the world and entries come in from all the best schools, we are really proud of how well our students have done this year.”
Entrants compete not only to represent their university, but to win studio internships, school scholarships, and prizes. Bucks has seven student projects in the running, the most successful of which are The Analytical Engine and Evade.
The Analytical Engine (from Alex Carrasco, Bradlay Munn, Leon Melasis, James Horsley and Fabian Grisales) pictured above, has made the prestigious Editor’s Choice List putting it directly in the inboxes of a large proportion of the industry.
Evade, (from Archie Dennis, Lyuboslav Angleov, Pabin Ale, Antoni Zakheos) is currently the sixth most watched film of all time in the entire competition.
Also getting attention are: Gia Nichols and Zoe Moorton for their Ancient Environment project, and Rex Hristov, Anna Zelazna, Antoni Zakheos and Mobo King for their individual contributions.
Finalists will be announced on 21 June and the winners on 7 July.
Rob added: “All our entries are excellent and show our students’ hard work and dedication. The industry watches this competition quite closely so we want to keep all the videos where they will be seen and urge everyone to have a watch!”
