Ellie Wilson studies BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science and plays for Bristol City Women in the FA Women's Super League. She has been selected for the GB squad taking on Russia and South Africa in Pool D of the 13-team tournament.

The full-back travels with the squad to Hong Kong in early August for a holding camp before the competition.

Great Britain last entered a women’s football team at the 2013 Games in Kazan, Russia, where it won the gold medal, beating Mexico 6-2. This summer, British athletes will compete across 22 sports, joining more than 10,000 people from over 150 countries.

Ellie said: "I feel honoured to have been selected and get the opportunity to represent Great Britain. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, especially competing in an event as big as this alongside a mixture of other sports and athletes.

"The previous women's team who entered came back with medals which I think makes it even more exciting for the team going this year. I cannot wait to take part."

Held biennially in major cities across the globe, the World University Games sees athletes come together to compete across numerous sports, and is billed as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympics.

Former Bucks New University student Fran Kirby (left) was part of the 2013 Great Britain team and plays for FA WSL club Chelsea and the England national team. She is targeting more success with England at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 in the Netherlands from 16 July - 6 August.
