New Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Bucks New University

Bucks New University’s mission is ‘more relevant than ever’ according to Professor Nick Braisby who has been appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Braisby is leaving the University of West London as Pro Vice-Chancellor – a position he has held since 2013 – to join Bucks in the autumn term.Picture of Prof Nick Braisby

He said: "I am delighted to be joining Bucks New University as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and especially so soon after the University has celebrated its 125th anniversary. I strongly identify with its historic mission to combine excellence in employment-focused and skills-based education with high quality applied research.

“The higher education sector is experiencing great change, and there is more to come, but Bucks New University’s mission is more relevant than ever. I believe delivering on this mission will enable our University to thrive.”

Professor Braisby is a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He was previously Head of Psychology and Professor of Cognitive Science at London South Bank University and he has held posts at the University of Winchester, the Open University and London Guildhall University.

He studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and then read for a PhD in Cognitive Science at the University of Edinburgh. He obtained a British Academy postdoctoral research fellowship held at the London School of Economics.

Professor Rebecca Bunting, Vice-Chancellor, said: “I am delighted that Professor Braisby will be joining the University in September. He brings a wealth of highly relevant experience and excellent insights into the sectoral challenges ahead.  I very much look forward to working with him as we take the University’s strategy forward.”

Professor Braisby added: “Bucks New University has many great existing strengths and I look forward to working with all staff of the University, our students, and our Students’ Union, to build on these and realise the University’s tremendous potential for the future."
