Paul, a visiting lecturer at Bucks New University, received his Honorary Doctorate from Professor Rebecca Bunting, Vice-Chancellor, at the University's graduation ceremony held at the Wycombe Swan theatre in High Wycombe.

He originally completed a Master's in Furniture, graduating with distinction in 1982, and set up BreweryLondon in 2013 after a successful career in the design consultancy industry, including Fitch Worldwide, a global company with 26 offices and 700 employees across the world. When Fitch Worldwide was sold to WPP, Paul established NewEdge. Paul said: "I am hugely honoured to receive this Doctorate. I have both great respect and affection for Bucks so this was a special day, which I will treasure forever.

"I believe it is essential for business and education to work more closely in the future to produce the next generation of entrepreneurs, and I am delighted to have been able to contribute to this with Bucks. It is when we work together that we all stretch ourselves, uncover new ways of thinking and drive growth opportunities.

"I was delighted to have the chance to address the students of today and encourage them to always remain curious and positive and open to new ways of thinking; not to be afraid of failure but to take chances and be prepared to learn tough lessons; and to surround themselves with the strongest team they can possibly muster - to be confident in recruiting people smarter than themselves. And finally, never to forget the people who supported them along their journey."

Dr Lorraine Watkins-Mathys, Dean of the Faculty of Design, Media & Management at Bucks New University, said despite managing a busy and successful international career in innovative design consultancy, Paul had always found the time to work with the University, mentoring and inspiring students as well as challenging their thinking.

She said: "Bucks New University's strength comes from working with leading figures in their fields, such as Paul, who help to bring the real world to our students.

"Paul's input is invaluable in helping us to prepare our students for their future careers so they leave us well equipped to become successful people in their chosen professions.

"Paul has also been helping the University develop ideas for courses on the Internet of Things, placing Design at the forefront of people's experience of smart technology.

"We are proud of Paul's achievement delighted that he has maintained links with the University as his successful career has unfolded and that he is continuing to have a significant influence on our students as they begin their journeys into the world of employment. We are very proud that Paul is part of our alumni family."
