An operating theatre and recovery ward are among a Simulation Suite featuring state-of-the-art equipment opened at Buckinghamshire New University.
The equipment, used by students studying DipHE Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) at the University's campus in High Wycombe, has been unveiled in an official opening event.
Shane Roadnight, Programme Lead in Operating Department Practice, said: "The Simulation Suite offers access to the most up-to-date equipment including anaesthetic machines, surgical equipment, operating table, surgical light and advanced airway equipment.
"This is an exciting opportunity for the students to practice and learn in the best facility I have ever seen. We are so lucky to have this and to be able to use it to ultimately benefit patient care."
The facility has been relocated to High Wycombe from the University's campus in Uxbridge, Middlesex.
Mr Roadnight added: "Our new facilities at the High Wycombe campus allow students to acquire the appropriate skills in a safe, academically robust environment, before being placed in the surgical environment.
"ODPs are a specialised workforce who are essential for the delivery of high-quality, individualised patient care in the operating theatre and associated areas."
Student Emma Cox added: "The facilities at Bucks New University give me a chance to practice my skills with realistic simulations in a safe learning environment."
Operating Department Practitioner graduates are able to register with the independent regulatory body, the Health and Care Professions Council. The professional registration is required to work in healthcare and protects the public and staff to ensure high quality care is maintained.
The opening of the Simulation Suite follow a range of developments by the University including opening a Human Performance, Exercise and Wellbeing Centre at its High Wycombe campus this year, home to its sports therapy programmes.
