Buckinghamshire New University is soon to play host to the local business community at the first B4 business event to be held in Bucks in 2013.

The event on Tuesday 25 June is primarily a networking opportunity, and it will be a chance for business professionals to share knowledge and ideas with innovative minds from the University.

Professor Ruth Farwell, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of Bucks New University, will be opening the event. Under Ruth’s leadership, Bucks New University has become a model for industry-led education, where strong business partnerships are considered key to the success of many of our students and courses.

The University’s Head of Resilience and Enterprise, Phil Wood MBE, will also be speaking at the event. Phil and his team have a dedicated role to match the University’s services with business partners and he will illustrate the varied ways in which both can work together to develop ideas and opportunities. He will aim to ensure that guests become fully aware of the real and exciting advantages that can be gained by drawing on the expertise of locally-focused higher education and academic excellence.

David Podger, Managing Director of Thames Valley Training & Development (TVT&D), will join Prof Farwell in speaking at the event, which has been organised with the support of TVT&D, a subsidiary of the University established to address skills needs identified by the local business community. He will outline some of the opportunities to study for professional qualifications in law, accountancy and management in association with bodies such as AAT, CILEx, CMI and ISMM. He will also outline TVT&D’s training services for regional businesses, including IT industry certification from HP and Cisco.

The company behind the event, B4, aims to bring together local business, training, and development opportunities. The successful B4 quarterly magazine is read across the region and regularly reaches over 3,000 local business leaders and 4,500 sponsors, featured businesses and advertisers, and the publication’s membership can be a valuable tool for networking.

The event is set to take place from 6pm on 25 June in the Drama Studio of the RIBA award-winning Gateway building at the University’s High Wycombe Campus. The event is open to all B4 Ambassadors and local business representatives.
