Bucks New University-led consortium looks to drive standards of excellence in security industry
Date: 23rd Sep 2020
Buckinghamshire New University has joined forces with a range of leading security organisations to launch a consortium to 'inspire and develop' excellence in security, risk and resilience.
Professor Phil Wood MBE, Head of School for Aviation and Security, chairs the Consortium board and said the University and training providers were working together on programmes and opportunities for people to develop and to provide one place for tenders and contract bids .
He said: "We’re all extremely excited about The Security Consortium and where it may go.
"Bucks New University initiated the idea and we know the very best training and consultancy partners in the UK to work with, sharing our vision for the future of security and risk training, education and consultancy in the UK.
"Ultimately, we will be aiming to make the fullest possible contribution towards the continuing professionalisation of the industry."
Professor Wood said that the potential is 'limitless' if new or established businesses or people in the industry embrace the consortium's vision to innovate, break barriers, be inclusive and give opportunities to those who may not have previously had them.
He added: "We have the ability to continue to take what we do to a global audience as individual organisations, but also now as a collective.
"We will continue to build and develop relationships so that those who do want the best that the UK can offer in this field are able to access what we do.
“We will only be limited by the ambition of others. If people 'get what we do' then the potential is unlimited.
"This desire to unlock potential is a shared aspiration for every member and partner of The Security Consortium, and of course is a core element of the Bucks New University raison d’être.”
The organisations say their proven track record of innovation and success, coupled with a shared independent, impartial and inclusive approach in their drive for excellence 'in ourselves, our learners and our clients' will drive success.
Wood is supported by Simon Whitehouse, a highly-experienced security professional who established SGW Safety and Security Ltd, the industry-respected security consultancy and training company, in 2003.
Fellow Board members include Patrick Smith, Emeritus Professor and director at the Silverback Security Academy; Duncan Godfrey, Head of Operations at Frontier Risks Group, and Alan Meyrick, an experienced security practitioner and currently a security consultant at SGW Safety and Security Ltd.
