UK Fashion and Textile Association selects Buckinghamshire New University for ‘Made it 20/21’
Date: 20th Oct 2020
Buckinghamshire New University has been selected as one of five UK institutions to take part in the UK Fashion and Textile Association’s (UKFT) ‘MADE IT’ programme, 20/21.
The project aims to bring together design graduates and manufacturers, enriching studies with specialist industry knowledge and providing a foundation for those hoping to start a career in manufacturing.
The programme is made up of three elements: a Production and Sourcing Masterclass, highlighting the breadth of job opportunities across the supply chain; a production internship, immersing students within a manufacturing environment; and the development of quality internship material for both students and employers, with aim of raising the quality and expectations of internships across the industry.
The University is proud to enter into this new partnership as part of an ongoing commitment to providing practical experiences that aid employability.
Course Leader for BA (Hons) Fashion Design, Brigitte Stockton, commented: “Being one of just five selected universities for the MADE IT project led by UKFT highlights how Bucks New University are developing industry ready skills in our Fashion Design students.
“The masterclass, live brief and an opportunity for a student to have paid work experience will provide an exciting opportunity for our students to learn more about UK manufacturing and consider their position in the wider ethical and economic attributes of the sector.”
Adam Mansell, CEO of UKFT, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these opportunities to fashion and textile students. Graduates with a strong understanding of the production side of the industry are highly valued and the chance to work within some of the UK’s brilliant mills and manufacturers is invaluable.”
