Places to take the family
Of course, you’ll be exploring your new surroundings for places to eat, meet and socialise with new friends. But chances are, you’ll also need some ‘go-to’ places for when family and friends come to visit.
Whether it’s shopping, pubs, cafes and restaurants – or parks, walks, outdoor pursuits and cultural destinations – there’s no shortage of ways to spend quality time with your nearest and dearest at Bucks. And there’s plenty of reliable public transport and taxis, including Uber, to help you with your grand tour.
TripAdvisor is a useful site for finding more places to take family and friends, and for places to stay while you show them around.
Let’s start with a spot of culture. The Swan Theatre on St Mary Street is a lively arts space with a range of events to suit all tastes, and it also has its own bar and kitchen for pre and post-show food and drink.
There’s also the Wycombe Museum , two multi-screen cinemas, and several art galleries dotted around the town. So perhaps you can mix a spot of shopping with some exhibitions and entertainment.
Wycombe has excellent retail options, with the Eden Centre and a wide range of high-street names and independent outlets off Desborough Road and Lily’s Walk.
And if that’s not enough, don’t forget central London is only a short train-ride away.
Uxbridge is a great destination for boat tours – and idling along at a leisurely pace on the canal, or even taking a speedboat trip into London. The town is also steeped in history, with the remarkable Battle of Britain Bunker RAF museum a hugely popular attraction.
Uxbridge’s retail and leisure offering is excellent, so there are shops and restaurants throughout The Pavilions and along High Street to cater for all tastes and preferences.
If you prefer some fresh air and greenery, there’s the Hillingdon Trail and Fasnidge Park. And, if you want to get the pulse racing, there’s always Go Ape Black Park Country Park – an aerial adventure park that’s great fun for all ages, with zip lines and rope climbs among the trees.
For a matinee or evening out, why not check out what’s on at the Odeon Cinema at intu Uxbridge, in The Chimes shopping centre? There are nine screens, including an IMAX theatre, and plenty of places to eat and drink nearby.
