Course Overview
During this course you’ll delve into the diverse world of sports marketing. You’ll explore sport commercialisation through broadcast, sponsorship and branding arrangements. Learn how to navigate intellectual property issues and discover how to align businesses with target audiences. We’re looking for critical thinkers with a strong interest in sport, marketing and media. We’ll cover this dynamic industry and give you the skills needed to enter it once you graduate.
What this course will cover?
With a strong business studies foundation, this course will give you a deep understanding of the unique challenges that face sports marketers. You’ll explore consumer culture, how it affects the sports world and how to spot marketing opportunities within it.
The course will take you through the targeting and positioning of brands, paying attention to issues such as market competition and saturation. We’ll cover the management of digital media and explore the role it has to play in this field. You’ll also look at how to measure campaign effectiveness. From market research techniques and digital analytics, you’ll learn how to establish the best return on marketing and communications investments.
Getting ready for business
In today's economy, marketing plays a vital role in all organisations. Here, you'll develop your skills and learn how marketing can enhance the performance and perceptions of an organisation.
You’ll develop key transferable skills in business management. Time will be spent looking at the impact of emerging markets and the process companies use to explore the potential of moving into international markets. You’ll look at strategic sport management and finance as well as the regulation of sport business.
Developing innovation and enterprise
During this course you’ll have the opportunity to actively engage in marketing and agency briefs. This is designed to help you to develop personal enterprise, innovation and entrepreneurial capability. You’ll also learn how to communicate effectively with various people within this industry, from athletes and sports participants, to professional and governing bodies of sport.

Being so close to London gives us some amazing industry links, and gives you the chance to gain experience with some great businesses. Our focus on real world experience gives you that competitive edge when heading into employment.
We believe that having full professional and personal support makes a huge different to the university experience. We make sure you have one-to-one teaching with our lecturers. At Bucks, we build relationships where lecturers know their students by name, not by number.
We have great links with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)
You’ll work towards two qualifications at the same time on this course. We embed Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) modules with our degree modules so, once you graduate, you can register with the CIM. We’re really close to their headquarters - so they often visit our students and give them really valuable advice.
You’ll also go to CIM events and work with industry leaders. By joining with students on other Business degrees, you’ll get vital experience while building your business skills. And you’ll be creating a network of friends to take with you when you graduate.
Sport Facilities
We have a state of the art gym and our Human Performance Laboratory is home to an indoor three-lane running track that incorporates 3D motion-capture technology. This facility helps to enhance athletes’ performance through improved technique, and also assists with injury prevention and rehabilitation. The laboratory is also equipped for assessing a range of physiological, biomechanical and psychological parameters. We are also the only university in the UK to focus on disability sport, an area of increasing importance.
