Course Overview
This BSc (Hons) Professional Practice is a flexible programme designed to enable suitably qualified and experienced practitioners to 'top up' a Level 5 qualification to a degree, through a number of different pathways. This course can also be studied full-time over one year, or spread over up to six years.
What will this course cover?
The course requires you to complete a total of 120 credits at Level 6, typically from four 30 credit modules. You can choose the modules you wish to study from a number of options depending on your study interests or the pathway you wish to follow. The final module must be either the Dissertation module or the Research and Innovation in Practice module.
For the Emergency and Unscheduled Care pathway, the Emergency and Unscheduled Care module and the final module are core. The final module must be either the Dissertation module or the Research and Innovation in Practice module.

Content will include the following:
- Assessment and emergency care management for individuals presenting with emergencies involving cardio-vascular, respiratory, neurological, musculo-skeletal, gastro-intestinal., reproductive, endocrine, renal systems, ear, nose & throat and eye emergencies
- Mental health in emergency settings
- Overview trauma emergencies and musculo-skeletal emergencies
- Overview and principles of suturing and plastering skills
- Burns
- Poisoning
- End of life issues
- Sepsis and shock
Course Details
What are the course entry requirements?
A typical offer will include at least 120 credits at level 5, evidence of clinical experience and candidates will need to be working in a relevant area of health care practice.
In addition to this applicants must be a registered nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register for consideration.
Students choosing the modular option who intend to complete this degree programme can only use a maximum of 60 credits as Accredited Prior Certificated Learning (APCL). For those students wishing to use credits from other universities, only 60 credits can be used as Accredited Prior Learning (APL). Students will choose from a portfolio of modules or short courses available.
