Interested in learning how to design and create 3D assets and environments for computer games? BA (Hons) 3D Games Art is for you! On this course you will be taught the fundamentals of 3D modelling and animation, and as your studies progress, your skills with modelling will also improve, and you will also learn about games engines and design. At Bucks we focus on preparing you for work in the industry, helping you to stand out to employers when you graduate.
The focus of this course is on professional workflows for creating 3D assets such as characters, props and environments. You will learn how to export and set these up in a games engine and learn the fundamentals of interactivity and gameplay elements. The course has been intentionally designed to be flexible, to allow you as a student to select and pursue your own specialism within the field.
- In year 1 you will learn both the animation and modelling aspect of the field.
- In year 2 you will further develop your modelling skills to include more advanced aspects such as organic sculpting, hair and clothes. This is also when you learn about games engines and how to make assets operational within them.
- In year 3 you will engage with project work. This is when you will have the opportunity to take a set industry style project and a creative project to develop your specialist skills and build an industry ready portfolio.

On this course you will focus on 3D development and learn up-to-date techniques from lecturers who are industry professionals. What you learn will be assessed through a variety of means including coursework that is created with 3D software, presentations and writing a series of reflective journals.
During your studies you will also have access to specialist software, some of which includes:

- State-of-the-art Motion Capture Equipment
- Unreal Engine
- 3DS Max
- Substance Suite
- Amongst a range of other software.
As well as all the amazing things we have to offer on campus, you can take the skills you will learn on your course and apply them by doing our Placement Plus scheme. This will build up your work experience, preparing you to enter the field of work upon graduation. We also offer life drawing classes and in year 1 you will have a series of masterclasses from industry professionals, these are designed to expand and contextualise your knowledge and understanding of the industry.
What are the course entry requirements?
A typical offer will be a UCAS Tariff score of 80. A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) is required. Every application is considered on an individual basis.
