Do you want to enhance your knowledge or progress your career in researching and designing for wellbeing, healthcare and related fields? Would you like flexibility and the possibility of combining your work with education, all online? This unique online MA in Interior Design for Health and Wellbeing is suited for graduates and professionals who want to do just that.

The need for designing for wellbeing at home, the workplace, leisure, hospitality, healthcare environments and retail has become highly relevant in the current design industry. To enhance and protect peoples living, caring and working environment is now, and will be, a growing part of a designer’s role.

This flexible online course is offered over one or two years and will be accredited by SBID, (The Society of British and International Design). All students who enroll on the course are eligible for free SBID student membership. Students are eligible for the same benefits as an SBID Associate member but without the fees.

This fantastic opportunity allows you to focus on designing interiors, products or buildings, plus solutions and spaces for occupants’ health, in a variety of self-selected environments.

Linked to the SBID Healthcare Council, which consists of experts across the healthcare design sector, current healthcare research programmes such as dementia, wellness, infection control and equality compliance are integrated into the course.

Course Details

This course is about progressing existing and creating a new generation of designers who specialise in the design for the health and wellbeing sector. The unique online curriculum combines theory and practical elements that focus on key elements of research into interior, environment, materials and new sustainable technology. As an online learning course, you can benefit from reduced costs and work flexibility, balancing your personal and professional commitments with your studies.

Through various modules your lecturers will provide you with current insight into the subject area, helping you refine your new skills, methods and knowledge to become critically engaged with your chosen subject area.

Existing links with professional designers and architects practicing within the design for health and wellbeing and sustainability sectors provide an opportunity for you to interact with the industry via an online platform.

The course provides students with the chance to conduct independent research investigations on a selected topic of interest and take responsibility for managing time, plus develop knowledge and connections within the field of interior design for health and wellbeing. You will be expected to produce projects based on your own research evidence, developed and explained visually and via referenced text.

At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to produce a focused Research Dissertation, throughout this you will receive one on one support with an allocated supervisor

Distance Learning

Our novel approach to teaching, with online delivery and a virtual classroom capability, helps our students make the most of their time, giving them the freedom to manage work life responsibilities. Students take part in virtual scenario-based exercises, supported by up-to-date material that provide complex and challenging content to stretch capabilities in a supportive learning environment.

Module materials will be available on the course’s virtual learning site and module briefs will be given and explained with core information as a guide to research areas. It will be your responsibility to ensure your equipment and software installation is adequate for home use. Verbal presentation will be required, so web cam facilities should also be installed.

At the heart of the course is the focus on student interest and priorities; we advocate and teach independent researching skills so that you can apply this learning in your own context and in line with your own, or your organisation’s, goals.

What are the course entry requirements?

Applications are accepted from students who demonstrate a good degree of prior knowledge with a relevant Honours degree, or equivalent knowledge shown via an online portfolio. Evidence of professional practice knowledge without a prior degree is an acceptable mode of entry into the programme.
