Course Overview

Please note that this course is Subject to Validation.

Actors, directors, writers, crew – they’re all vital to a film project. But producers? They’re at the heart of it all.

If you’re excited about the idea of producing and managing film, this one-year course will help you work towards your goal. We created the programme in collaboration with Creative Media Skills (CMS), based at Pinewood Studios. Their past students have worked on big film productions including Star Wars and Avengers.

The CMS film experts will do most of the teaching to give you a real insight into what the industry is really like. Although you’ll be studying at the CMS facilities at Pinewood, you’ll still have access to everything Bucks offers, including our supportive staff and great campus facilities.

  • Study with professionals in the CMS teaching areas, based at the world-famous Pinewood Studios
  • Work on exciting projects across a variety of film contexts
  • Suitable for recent film graduates wanting to specialise in producing, or working producers who want to brush up on theory

Course Details

Our industry contacts say the film industry is growing but there’s a shortage of trained producers. We developed this course to give you the skills you’ll need to stand out in production management or executive producing.

Your written assignments and classroom work will help you understand the role of producer. And you’ll put that knowledge to use on actual productions, getting to see the results of your efforts on screen. You’ll build up your portfolio throughout the year, learning the skills you’ll need to impress.

We cover all the essentials of preproduction, from strategic planning to organising schedules. You’ll understand the background to your work, studying areas like the global film market and contemporary film developments.

Then we get down into the details. There’s a lot to cover in the producing world, whether that’s budgeting, recruitment, locations, transport, negotiation, or insurance. You’ll need to know it all, and we give you the tools to meet any challenge the production might throw at you.

Expert practitioners showing you the ropes

Industry expert staff and regular guests will help you develop the skills for a successful career.

And since Creative Media Skills is based at Pinewood Studios, you’ll be surrounded by working professionals and you’ll always be on top of the latest developments. Working alongside them and being immersed in the creative environment offers you a teaching experience unlike any other.

An end goal in sight

Thanks to the UK’s film industry doing well, and the growth of streaming platforms and digital media, there are more opportunities than ever. But it’s a tough industry to break into. That’s why a specialist course can make a big difference.

With their extensive contacts, CMS hear about the latest opportunities in upcoming projects. Past students have had exciting placements on big budget movies. And with London so close, there are plenty of opportunities to network and look for jobs.
