Vice-Chancellor's International Excellence Award

The Vice-Chancellor’s Award for International Excellence is intended to encourage applications from self-funded students with international fee status, who demonstrate academic excellence in their particular discipline.

This scholarship will support successful applicants by significantly reducing their living costs across their period of study at Bucks New University, for up to three years; this will be in the form of a 75% reduction on the cost of Bucks New University accommodation at Brook Street Halls.

One scholarship per academic school will be available; seven awards in total.

To be eligible for a Vice-Chancellor's Award for International Excellence, a student must:

  • Have international fee status. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, please check with our Admissions team at admissions@bucks.ac.uk.
  • Be holding:
    • A firm conditional or unconditional offer;
    • For an eligible programme of study, ie full time, undergraduate courses;
    • Taught at an eligible campus ie High Wycombe, Uxbridge or Aylesbury;
    • For entry in September 2019.
  • Be self-funded, ie you are not eligible or applying for a student loan, grant or bursary; federal aid; or state, employer or other sponsorship.
  • Meet all conditions attached to any visa application for Tier 4 sponsorship, as per UK Visas and Immigration guidelines and regulations.

To apply for the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for International Excellence, candidates must:

  • Be holding a firm conditional or unconditional offer for an eligible programme of study.
  • Eligible candidates should email this completed form to bursary@bucks.ac.uk by Sunday 14 July 2019, as well as:
    • Examples of academic excellence ie examination certificates or previous awards; and,
    • A 500 word personal statement, outlining the candidate’s eligibility for the scholarship.
  • Applications will be considered by Heads of School before Wednesday 31 July 2019 when the outcome will be communicated to successful candidates.
  • The Vice-Chancellor’s Award for International Excellence is only available for September 2019 entry onto undergraduate programmes, taught full time on the High Wycombe, Uxbridge or Aylesbury campuses.
  • This scholarship is not available to students enrolling on undergraduate with foundation year or postgraduate courses.
  • The scholarship is only open to new students commencing study in 2019 and entering University accommodation, who have international fee status.
  • This scholarship is only open to self-funded students ie those who are paying their tuition fees in full, as opposed to via a student loan, grant or bursary; federal aid; or state, employer or other sponsorship.
  • This scholarship is only open to students who have achieved the grades required outlined their conditional or unconditional offer.
  • Each of Buckinghamshire New University’s academic schools, as per listing below, will offer one scholarship:
    • School of Art, Design and Performance
    • School of Aviation and Security
    • School of Business, Law and Computing
    • School of Media and Creative Industries
    • School of Health Care and Social Work
    • School of Human and Social Sciences
    • School of Nursing and Allied Health
  • Each Head of School will review the applications and make the award to the most gifted student applying for a place in each academic school, considering:
    • Academic grades
    • Personal statement
  • Decisions made by Heads of Schools will be final.
  • The scholarship will be granted as a 75% discount on Brook Street accommodation.
  • This scholarship is not transferable to other accommodation, whether this is owned and managed by Buckinghamshire New University or otherwise.
  • This scholarship cannot be exchanged for cash or other goods or services.
  • Successful applicants to the scholarship will be granted the discount for up to 3 years.
  • Scholarship eligibility in years 2 and 3 are subject to progression criteria; a grade average of 2.1 or higher must be maintained across each academic year, for the scholarship to be applied in any subsequent year.
  • This scholarship cannot be used in conjunction with another scholarship, bursary or discount offered by Buckinghamshire New University.
  • The application deadline for the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for International Excellence is Sunday 14 July 2019. Late applications will only be considered in the event that scholarships remain allocated after the allocation date which is Wednesday 31 July 2019.
  • The University reserves the right to withdraw any scholarship at any point prior to acceptance of the offer to study.

*Please note, this will be a reduction on your University accommodation and will show on your statement.

  • Any scholarship decision made by Buckinghamshire New University is final. There is no right of appeal.
  • Buckinghamshire New University will remove the scholarship immediately in the event that:
    • A student withdraws from a programme of study;
    • A student is suspended or excluded from the University;
    • A student has made any misrepresentation or acted fraudulently or dishonestly.
  • In the event that a student requires a break from study or enters into a period of intercalation, Buckinghamshire New University reserves the right to remove the scholarship. Continuation of the scholarship will be considered on the merit of each individual case and will require recommendation by the relevant Head of School and approval by the Vice-Chancellor.
