Tracey Hayes

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2019, my most recent role was as a health visitor practice teacher, supporting post-registration nurses and midwives with the practical element of their training. Whilst working in this role I was also seconded into the practice education team and had the opportunity to work on service level projects, one of which was to design and teach a programme of education for staff working at a regional mother and baby unit. Altogether, I worked as a health visitor for 12 years and before commencing my training to become a practice teacher I managed 2 teams as a team leader for 3 years.

Before becoming a health visitor, I worked as a senior staff nurse and clinical sister in children’s emergency departments for 6 years, where I was able to provide emergency nursing care as part of the accident and emergency team. I undertook my APLS (advanced paediatric life support) whilst there and became involved with the safety net working group which provided a link between A&E and the child’s GP and health visitor/school nurse for frequent attenders.

My area of interest for future research is in supporting students throughout their programme in relation to their overall wellbeing and mental health. I am hoping to study a MSc in mental health and wellbeing in education once I have completed my current course.

I am registered with the NMC and am a member of the Royal College of Nursing. I also hold membership with the IHV (Institute of Health Visitors).
