Biography

I am currently the course leader for the three SCPHN programmes at Bucks New University (Health Visiting, School Nursing and the Transfer of Field of Practice programmes at levels 6 and 7). I am also the lead for the PGCert in Education and joint lead for the BA(Hons) Public Health and have a passion and interest for education and practice education.

I qualified as a nurse in 1991 working primarily in the community in South West London and completed a degree in Social Science (Health Studies) in 1995. I then trained as a Health Visitor and then Community Practice Teacher working for Kingston Community Trust until 2002 when I moved into working in higher education at Thames Valley University as a lecturer in Public Health and Primary Care completing an MA in Education in 2009. During this period I also worked with the Open University as a Practice Tutor for their pre-registration nursing programme.

In 2011 I returned to Health Visiting Practice as a Community Practice Teacher in Berkshire and supported many student Health Visitors during the period of the Health Visitor Implementation plan.

I have been working in my current role of Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader at Bucks New University and continue to gain great satisfaction from supporting a wide range of students and learners to become passionate about their subject areas and successful in their studies. Key interests include the use of blended leaning, supporting learning in professional practice and child development and safeguarding as part of the health visiting public health role.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, NMC Teacher and a member of the United Kingdom Standing Conference on Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Education
