Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2015, I was working as a community practice teacher for health visiting, supporting and assessing many student health visitors. Before this, I worked for 9 years at Thames Valley University, and then the University of West London, as a senior lecturer for public health and primary care courses. Since 2010, I have also worked with the Open University as a practice tutor for their pre-registration nursing programme.

I originally qualified as general registered nurse in 1991, working primarily in the community in South West London and completed a degree in social science in 1995. I then trained as a health visitor and then community practice teacher working for Kingston Community Trust until 2002.

I studied for my NMC Recorded Nurse Teacher in 2006 and my MA Learning and Teaching in 2007, both at Thames Valley University. My specialist area of interest is learning and teaching. It is interesting because it underpins everything we do as educators both in university and the practice setting.

I am a registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council as an RGN, RHV and recorded nurse prescriber and nurse teacher. I am also a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

My career highlight is was being invited to Koc University in Istanbul to share our expertise around supporting and assessing nurses in the practice setting.
