Biography

I have been working with students throughout my entire career here at the University, initially in a supporting role, but then moving into an academic role. Within computing and cyber security, I have experience teaching computer architectures, computer networking with network security, business modelling and technology enhanced learning.

Throughout my work I have always developed my own learning materials and take pride in the careful production of my presentations and exercises, utilising digital technologies as appropriate. Due to my work in championing technology enhanced learning via flexible and distributed methodologies I feel it is important to teach using the most applicable approach and put these skills to work in my materials creation and delivery.

My current teaching is classroom based, but I have prepared and delivered classes online utilising several platforms, such as Blackboard Collaborate and Cisco Webex. I have also created online video materials, which I host via YouTube.

I also have a strong interest in the pastoral care of students and in my current role I am also a personal tutor, arranging face-to-face meetings with the group and individuals on a regular basis.

I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an associate member of the British Computing Society and a Cisco academy instructor for CCNA.

I have been part of bid teams for both European Commission funded research programmes (The Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP), formally Leonardo da Vinci and ICT) and JISC programmes (Open Education).
