Dr Matthew Smith

BSc (Hons), PGCert, PhD

Senior Lecturer

Matthew is co-Course Leader for the MSc Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP), which he has been instrumental in delivering and developing since its inception in 2012. He has previously taught at Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University, and Oxford Brookes University, all in the UK. He is a skilled, innovative and creative teacher that his students describe as inspirational. His research interests span positive psychology, applied social psychology, and parapsychology. Recent work has brought these interests together in exploring how ideas within positive psychology might impact upon people’s experiences of ‘luck’. He is currently on the supervisory team for four doctoral students. His research on the nature and experience of luck has created a personal style that is focused on the spontaneous, unplanned and exciting aspects of life that we may miss or overlook if we do not stay open to them.
