Biography

Karen registered as an Adult Nurse in 1988. Her clinical career had a surgical focus concluding in a Clinical Nurse Specialist post in Vascular Care. Having been in academia for the past 18 years Karen has a wide range of experience in teaching, leadership and management including the roles of, Head of School, Academic Head of Department, Academic Principal, Assistant Head of Subject, Programme Leaderships, and Project Lead. As the Academic Principal in an Independent FE college (2010-2012) Karen was on the Senior Management Team and had responsibility for: • Effectively securing strategic business partnerships with two Higher Education Institutes • Meeting strategic goals, particularly in expanding the higher education provision and improving local recruitment • Development and implementation of robust governance policies in accordance to QAA Quality Code • Preparation of a successful QAA Review of Education Oversight • Improvements in UKVI Tier 4 adherence requirements (admission, attendance monitoring) • Review and revision of policy (including Staff Recruitment & Development, Assessment and Student Evaluation) Karen started at Bucks in 2012 teaching BSc (Hons) Nursing programme. In 2017 she secured Head of School position and has successfully lead the School in developing and securing tenders for apprenticeship programmes. Karen continues to enhance partnership working and raise the external profile of the School. Karen has a passion for nursing and believes providing quality education facilitates delivery of evidenced based quality care.
