Dr Ben Clayton

Biography

I have spent my whole career at Buckinghamshire New University, joining in 2004 initially as a research assistant before becoming a senior lecturer in 2006. I have taught aspects of sociology of sport, sport development, sport management, and research methods. I was awarded a PhD in sociology of sport from Brunel University in 2005 and have been a member of the British Sociological Association (BSA), the International Sociology of Sport Association (ISSA), and the Leisure Studies Association (LSA).

I am published primarily in the areas of sport and gender, gender and pedagogy, disability sport, and the sports media, and have a keen interest in ‘stories of sport participation’ and alternative, narrative forms of representing sports-related research. This research has provided me the privilege of working with several remarkable organisations and individuals from large National Governing Bodies of sport to local charities, and feminist scholars to disability athletes.
