Dr Ben Clayton

Ben is a sociologist and qualitative methodologist with particular research interests in sport and masculinities, community sport, collegiate sport, and the use of creative nonfiction for academic research. His work has been published in a number of journals, including Sociology of Sport Journal, International Review for the Sociology of Sport, Soccer and Society, Annals of Leisure Research, and Qualitative Research in Sport, Exercise and Health. He has a keen interest in research ethics and is chair of the University Ethics Committee. Ben teaches research methods and socio-cultural issues for sport and physical activity and is course leader for BA (Hons) Sport Development and Coaching. He supervises MPhil and PhD candidates that employ qualitative methodologies to examine socio-cultural aspects of sport, leisure, and physical activity, and welcomes proposals in this broad area from prospective research students.
