Dr. Marianthi Alexandropoulou

Biography

Marianthi is Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing. She holds a BSc (Nursing), an MSc (Community Nursing) and a PhD (specialisation in School Nursing-Health Promotion) all from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and she is an NMC Registered Teacher. Before joining Bucks New University she has had a varied career in nursing including roles in clinical, education and research. She worked as an associate Lecturer in University of Northampton and in the Technological Education Institute of Athens. In the clinical setting she worked in different levels of healthcare in various roles including chemotherapy and oncology nurse, ICU nurse, general nurse, and diabetes nurse. Her research interest is in the area of community and public health nursing with a focus on health promotion. Her research activity begun while studying for her master’s degree where she investigated school nurses’ involvement in health promotion activities, examined their attitudes toward it, and explored the factors influencing their practices. At doctorate level she planned, implemented and evaluated the effectiveness of a health education programme in first aid for special education school personnel. At post-doctorate level she explored public’s knowledge and attitude towards home healthcare. She has contributions in journals and conferences and she has been awarded scholarships and grants for research excellence and innovation.
