Served for 30 years in the Metropolitan Police Service and spent the majority of that time in the Criminal Investigation Department. He has investigated all types of major crime including murder, rape and finished his police career investigating child protection offences. His MSc is on the subject of interviewing child victims and witnesses. He was one of the most highly qualified interviewers in respect of children in the Metropolitan Police and would be called upon to interview children who had learning difficulties. He trained both new recruits, child abuse investigators and social workers in interviewing and investigation techniques. He has been at the university for 10 years and has assisted in the creation and update of the Police Studies Programmes. He has taken groups of students to Auschwitz, Berlin, Belgium and France to enhance their learning.
