Mrs Heather Dean

Biography

Heather is a Registered Adult nurse and holds the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification in Health Visiting along with the V100 Community Nurse Prescribing Qualification. Heather gained extensive Registered Nurse experience in Paediatrics before undertaking the SCPHN course in 1987. Since that time Heather has worked as a Health Visitor, a Locality Manager and a Strategic Board Nurse in South Bucks and South Devon. Since 2014 Heather has been a Senior Lecturer in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing- HV at Bucks New University.

During 1999/2000 the Government introduced the concept of Primary Care Groups, which went on to develop in to Primary Care Groups- Heather was elected as a Board Nurse and co Clinical Governance Lead in Bucks- this post was for three years.

Heather worked for twenty seven years in Health visiting practice working in a range of operational and strategic posts in South Bucks and Devon.  During this time Heather developed a robust network of inter-professional links in the community and appreciated the need for positive, professional joint working practice to enhance the individual, the community and professional networks.

In April 2014 after two years working as a SCPHN Community Practice Teacher, Heather joined Bucks New University as a Senior Lecturer and currently works as a part of the Community Health Team within the School of Health Care and Social Work. Heather became module lead for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing and the V100 Nurse Prescribing module. Heather was also the Link for BNU Pre-Registered Nurses for Hounslow and Richmond NHS Trust. Heather became a member of the United Kingdom Standing Conference on Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Education in 2014 which discusses and influences Government Policies. In 2015 Heather became a Queens Nurse and attends QN meetings regularly to network, to share good practice and understand the roles of other QNs working in a range of different communities

In 2017 Heather became an external examiner for the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse courses at The University of Southampton which has enhanced practice, understanding and networking linked to SCPHN practice and education.
