Bucks ad duo win award ahead of end of year show
Date: 1st Jun 2018
Third year BA (Hons) Creative Advertising students Kat Piziurny and Kinga Kraczkowska have won a D&AD New Blood 2018 industry award for their work with Adidas.
The Bucks New University duo were asked to work to a live brief to design an advertising campaign for the top sports brand. This lead to the creation of Run for Your Life, a mental health awareness campaign aimed towards young people living in big cities.
Kat, 22, said: “We found out recently about the increase in people taking antidepressants. This information really surprised and upset us, it made us think ‘what is the real reason behind it’?
“We realised that part of the problem is that living and working in big cities like London puts so much pressure on people that they end up searching for relief. And it's not just London, it's all the metropolis.”
So Kat and Kinga set about creating a campaign which raised awareness of the benefits of exercise in relation to mental health.
The Run for Life campaign promotes the fact that just 60 minutes of physical activity per week can positively affect your mental health.
The D&AD (Design & Art Direction) New Blood Awards is a global competition to recognise young creatives in the design and advertising world. Now the duo have to wait until 12 July to see what ‘Pencil’ award their campaign has achieved. There are five different Pencil levels which represent shortlisting to first prize.
Kinga, 23, said receiving the email about their award was ‘unexpected’: “We were really surprised, it almost felt like a hoax!
“Whatever type of pencil we're going to get, it doesn't just belong to us. We owe it to so many people around us who have helped us and inspired us.”
Creative Advertising Course Leader Julie Wright said that winning a D&AD New Blood Award marks the student team out as one of the best up and coming talents.
She added: “We are really proud that Kat and Kinga have been nominated for a Pencil at New Blood – let’s keep our fingers crossed that it’s a Yellow one [first prize]!
“The creative advertising course at Bucks enters every year, with great success over the 25 years the course has been running. We work live briefs into the course as much as possible to underpin our drive to change students’ lives through employment-focused and skills-based teaching so they can achieve their ambitions.”
Kat and Kinga’s work will be on display at the Bucks New University Art & Design Summer Show which is open to the public from 9 – 14 June 2018.
The end of year show celebrates the creativity, innovation and individuality of our final year Art & Design students and is a great opportunity to see the calibre of work our students produce and meet the next generation of talent.
The exhibition is free, just pop into reception at High Wycombe Campus, pedestrian access via Lily’s Walk, High Wycombe.
