Scott's making a mark at the World Cup
Date: 26th Jun 2018
A Buckinghamshire New University student was pitchside at England's FIFA World Cup match against Panama, helping ensure VAR ran smoothly.
Scott Ramsell, 20, studying BA (Hons) Audio and Music Production, is in Russia as a Referee/VAR Audio Engineer, linking up referees with video assistant referees.
England’s match was in Nizhny Novgorod, in western Russia, and Scott was responsible for ensuring the referees on the pitch could communicate with the video assistant referees (VARs) stationed in Moscow, 260 miles away.
Prior to the match Scott said: “It’s exciting but at the same time there is a lot of pressure, with more than 500 people involved in the production of one match.
“Everyone’s job can have an impact on someone else's so you have to be on your mettle to ensure everything goes smoothly.
“During the matches I am right next to the fourth official and the VAR TV that the referee looks at to decide on decisions.”
Scott is also working at games involving Sweden and South Korea; Argentina and Croatia; and Switzerland and Costa Rica, as well as a last-16 and quarter-final match.
