Date: 31st Jul 2018
Bucks New University ranked 17th best for student satisfaction, averaged across 27 questions in the 2018 National Student Survey (NSS). The survey of final-year students at 133 universities across the UK also saw Bucks Students' Union take the top spot.
The NSS asked students to rate their satisfaction across areas including quality of teaching, academic support offered, assessment and if their opinions were heard and listened to.
According to its students, Bucks has improved across every single one of the 27 areas they were asked about. Key highlights are:
- We are a top 10 UK University* for listening to the student voice and rank 10th for being clear on how we act on student feedback;
- Bucks Students’ Union is now the best in the UK;
- 11th best for the quality of its learning community and 12th best for students feeling part of a community of staff and students;
- 12th best for assessment and feedback; 13th best for staff’s helpful comments on student work; and 16th best for the academic support it provides; and
- 15th best for providing students with opportunities to apply what they’ve learned; and 9th best for providing good advice when they’re making study choices.
Professor Nick Braisby, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Bucks New University, said:
“We are thrilled to see that the experience of our students has improved across every single category in this year’s NSS, and that overall student satisfaction at Bucks is up 3% on last year.
“We’ve been transforming lives at Bucks for more than 125 years through employment-focused and skills-based education which enables students from all backgrounds to achieve their ambitions. We’re proud to see from our NSS results that our students recognise the quality we offer which is testament to the hard work and dedication our staff, and I thank them for all their efforts.
"We are especially proud of Bucks Students’ Union which is number one in the UK. The University works in partnership with the Students’ Union to give our students the best possible experience. Today’s results demonstrate the great work we do together which has already resulted in rising student engagement levels, with those students who engage in the Union’s programmes and initiatives also doing better in their studies.
“We’re not complacent at Bucks and are already looking closely at the comments made by our students in the NSS to see how we can make things even better.”
Tristan Tipping, CEO of Bucks Students' Union said:
"We have a first rate team with unlimited reserves of creativity, drive and passion. They always give their all, whether it’s organising community volunteering, curating music festivals, helping students develop extra skills or campaigning to improve their educational experience.
“I’m proud and thrilled to see all their efforts rewarded by being recognised as the best students’ union in the UK."
