Bucks Advent Calendar: Sunday 24 December – Merry Christmas from our Vice-Chancellor
Date: 24th Dec 2017
Vice-Chancellor Professor Rebecca Bunting wishes all staff and students a Merry Christmas and reflects on 2017.
"The University’s online Advent calendar has featured the talent and commitment of our students and staff in the lead up to Christmas.
"Of course 24 days can never do justice to our achievements.
"Since the turn of the year there has been an impressive range of highlights from which to choose: from national awards and recognition for our staff across the University, to successful bidding for contracts and grant funding; from life-changing outcomes for our students as they graduate and progress in their careers, to our acknowledged influence in the sectors, professions and research areas with which we engage.
"In 2017, our 125 year anniversary celebrations came to an end, marked by a reception in the Speaker’s House in Westminster and the burying of a time capsule on the High Wycombe Campus.
"We have changed significantly since the 1890s - locations, names, focus - but what has remained constant is our commitment to our students, wherever and whatever they study, through excellent teaching and support.
"We should take pride in the quality of the learning community at Bucks, which students clearly recognise, as they told us in the National Student Survey, where we were significantly above the national average in relation to the question about the extent to which students feel part of that community. They do, and I’m sure we will all want to celebrate that.
"I am particularly pleased that we been able to continue our work in widening participation through our active engagement in the National Collaborative Outreach Programme, working with the most disadvantaged young people to support them into higher education.
"We have seen many initiatives in 2017 as we enhance our provision and develop our business to respond to the changing landscape and market conditions of our sector. I am grateful to all of you for your support and for everything you do for Bucks.
"I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."
