Buckinghamshire New University has awarded an honorary master's degree to its graduate Olivier Rabenschlag, Head of Creative at Google.

Olivier flew in from his home in Los Angeles to receive the award during a graduation ceremony at the Wycombe Swan Theatre in High Wycombe on Monday 5 September.Olivier Rabenschlag

He graduated from the University in 2002 with a degree in Graphic Design and Advertising and his work since for the likes of Apple, Visa, Coca-Cola and Nissan has won him industry awards, including D&AD, One Show, FWA, Cannes, Effies.

He said: "I am greatly humbled and honoured to be receiving this award. I would like to offer my sincerest gratitude to Bucks New University for this honour."

Olivier was recognised for his outstanding national and international achievements and numerous awards of excellence in advertising, along with his continued association with and support for the University since his graduation from Bucks New University.

Olivier was the youngest person to feature in expert Paul Springer's book: Ads to Icons: How Advertising Succeeds in a Multimedia Age when it was published in 2007.

Springer, who was one of Olivier's lecturers at Bucks New University, said: "Olivier is one of those rare talents - he has an amazing frame of reference and, of all those I know worldwide in digital communications, he is clearly in the absolute vanguard. Put simply, Olivier seems to know what's round the corner before anyone else!"

Olivier also featured in another of Paul's books, called Pioneers of Digital, which focused on the individuals who have been key in shaping the digital marketing world.

Olivier RabenschlagOlivier has worked at creative agencies around the world including Ogilvy & Mather and Dare in London, Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami, Ogilvy & Mather in New York and most recently, working as Group Creative Director of Media Arts, at TBWA\Chiat\Day in Los Angeles. He has been Head of Creative since 2012 and works closely with creative agencies and global brands on transforming modern day advertising and marketing.

"I see my role as transforming global brands and modern day advertising by unlocking all the digital possibilities that Google has to offer," he added.

Frazer Mackenzie, Head of School for Arts & Creative Industries at Bucks New University, said: "It's always great to hear how our alumni have done and even more exciting to welcome them back to receive an honorary for what they've achieved.

"But Olivier's success and his role at Google is particularly special and something we're incredibly proud of. He's a great example of what our creative industry graduates can achieve and an inspiration for the crop of students graduating this year."
