Students from the School of Arts & Creative Industries at Buckinghamshire New University have come up with fundraising campaigns for the British Heart Foundation.
The first-year students, studying BA (Hons) Graphic Arts, BA (Hons) Graphic Design, and BA (Hons) Illustration, worked with the charity and its partner, global brand consultancy The Partners, to devise month-long fundraising initiatives.
Ideas included a jazz festival to coincide with Jazz Appreciation Month with music educating people about heart attack care; and a school workshop called Hand on Heart to educate schoolchildren on the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Other proposals ranged from a series of humorous illustrated Christmas cards to promote healthy lifestyles over the festive period, called 'Get Elfy!', to an app / school challenge called Heart Burn where the school to donate the most clothes gets free fireworks for bonfire night.
Abbie Vickress, Lecturer in Graphic Design, said: "I am really pleased that the students rose to the challenge and presented their work in such a professional way.
"They have learnt a lot around audience engagement, what a campaign is and could be, literal and lateral design solutions and pitching live projects to live clients."
Students presented their campaigns to Libby Page, Brand Executive at the British Heart Foundation, and Marc Spicer, Senior Designer at The Partners.
Mr Spicer said: "It was great to see the variety of ideas presented, as well as seeing the students work their ideas into well-rounded campaigns with lots of applications and touchpoints.
"It wasn't an easy brief so it was great to see that they had got to grips with the British Heart Foundation's objectives, and most importantly had fun coming up with creative and unexpected ways of engaging their audience."
The students involved were Aleksandra Wolejko, Jessica Lines and Jack Rees; Cheyenne Martinez and Georgie Lucas; Gemma Yeomans; and Krystian Zun and Lara Henderson; Andy Sturt and Ashleigh Parker.
Ashleigh added: “It was interesting getting a live brief as we not only had our tutors to impress but real life clients. The idea that this was a real project and could go on to be something more was really motivating and we wanted to come up with something creative and different.”
