Enterprise showcase

Date: 28th Apr 2016

Buckinghamshire New University students have been displaying the results of work they have carried out with businesses from the local area at a special showcase event.
Students Doyin Taiwo, Amanda Brewer and Callum Mills.

The work was completed by students from Bucks Business School as part of the Enterprise Projects module, which requires students to work in groups as consultants for local companies to develop specific business solutions. The showcase event, now in its fifth year of running, was held in The Room at the University's High Wycombe Campus.

Callum Mills, who is studying BA (Hons) Business and Finance, was part of a group tasked with researching and developing new revenue streams for a local pub.

He said: "At our first meeting, they asked us to investigate any possible ideas for new revenue streams into the business. After researching their competitors in the local area, analysing the strengths and weaknesses of the pub's current operations and looking at behaviours and reviews of existing customers, we presented them with an ideas package focused around improving their existing weekly deals, their buffet menu, and the possible uses of their function room."

A total of 26 projects were carried out by students from a number of the University's business courses. Clients included a budget gym, a dog rescue charity, and a social enterprise championing better food education.

Senior Lecturer in Marketing Dr Christine Parsons, said: "The Enterprise Projects module is a great way of combining student learning with supporting and developing local businesses. Each year, students develop solutions for a wide-range of businesses. Students are given the opportunity to gain real-world, hands-on experience to prepare them for work, while businesses receive the benefit of having dedicated consultants to carry out research and offer advice tailored to their needs."

"The showcase event provides a great opportunity to see the results of the students' hard work, and shows just how well the teams have worked together and interacted with local businesses."
