Charlotte Webster's Story
Our BSc (Hons) Dance and Fitness alumni, Charlotte Webster, recently sat down and shared with us her experience as a Bucks student and how her degree helped her achieve her career goals.
Charlotte shared that during her time at Buckinghamshire New University she was supported by her lecturers, which helped her build her confidence. “My fitness lecturer frequently made us as students teach a fitness class or give one to one personal training sessions. This helped grow my confidence in public speaking and teaching large fitness classes. We were then given in-depth feedback from our lecturers which helped me improve and polish up my classes.”
Originally drawn to Bucks due to the variation on modules on the degree Charlotte added “They also provided the Level 3 Personal Trainer and level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification which is the only University I have heard that does this! You cannot get a job as a personal trainer/ fitness instructor without these qualifications so I knew when I graduated from Bucks I was able to go straight into employment without having to get extra qualifications beforehand.”
After graduating Charlotte was challenged in finding a job during the pandemic, however she managed to use her skills and knowledge to land a role as a Fitness Instructor. Charlotte states her course helped prepare her for real-life. “Bucks prepared me well for the world of work, especially to work within the Fitness industry. Before going to Buckinghamshire New University, I hated the thought of speaking in front of a group of people, but I am now able to do this with ease thanks to the workshops on my degree. This skill has particularly helped me within job interviews as I am not nervous to speak in front of people.”
Like many of our current students and alumni, Charlotte wanted to share how much her lecturers inspired her. “My teachers all inspired me to achieve my goals as they would always push me to do better by providing me with constructive criticism.” She went on to say that “I received a massive amount of support from all lecturers on the dance course. If at any time I was struggling with University work, there was always someone to ask for help. All lecturers would offer to help their students through one to one tutorials or Skype calls. This ongoing support the lecturers at Bucks provided was a massive help to me and definitely deflected positively on my grade.”
